Every Roper Thinks Their Horse Is the Smartest One There

Walk through the parking lot at any jackpot and you’ll hear some version of the same sentence.
“This horse is really smart.”
And to be fair… it might be true.
But if you listen long enough, you’ll realize something pretty incredible.
Apparently every single horse at the roping is the smartest one there.
“This one knows the steer before I even nod.”
“He can feel the run.”
“She knows exactly where the corner is.”
By the time you’ve heard five or six of those conversations, it starts to sound like the horses are doing most of the roping.
Look — good horses matter. A lot.
They make the game easier. They keep runs consistent. They forgive mistakes that probably shouldn’t be forgiven.
But the truth is, most great rope horses aren’t mind readers.
They’re just incredibly well trained.
Consistency looks like intelligence.
Repetition looks like instinct.
A horse that’s seen thousands of steers is going to make things look pretty smooth.
Still though, if you ask any roper leaning on a trailer, they’ll tell you the same thing.
Their horse?
Smartest one in the parking lot.
Just an unsolicited opinion.
